Mentors
Connecting students with experienced policy professionals to provide insight and guidance on becoming effective policy professionals.
Our distinguished mentors are experienced policy professionals who have worked as policy change agents at the local, state and federal levels. As P3E mentors, they provide high-level guidance to students teams working on client-based course projects.
We also feature selected mentors in a series of "Getting Stuff Done" Workshops, where they share distinctive aspects of their professional experiences with our students. Examples include working on diverse teams, communicating with the media, effective advocacy, building networks, etc.

Alma Wheeler Smith
Former state lawmaker and Co-chair of Citizens for Racial Equality in Washtenaw (CREW)
"As a mentor, I guide collaboration, promote problem-solving skills and open doors to resources that might speed the student teams’ way to their project’s successful end. But the benefit of interacting with these bright, innovative and persistent people has been all mine. I do not work with every student team but my reward at the end of each term is learning about all of their projects. Across the board, the students’ energy, quick focus, grasp and imaginative approach to the problems they research and the solutions they develop renews my confidence that our future in their hands is sound."
