What we do

“
Think how valuable a university can be to a state and its citizens if that university gets engaged. Throughout my career I have seen this, and I continue to believe it.

The Program in Practical Policy Engagement (P3E) was established in the spring of 2018 with a generous gift from the Power Foundation, with support from the U-M Office of the Provost and the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.

One of the main reasons I came to policy school was to improve my ability to be a connector between people, policy, and its application. P3E gives students a hands-on opportunity to do just that by providing space to apply skills beyond the classroom. People are complex and policy is complex – this program provides students space to gain a deeper understanding of these nuances and become more prepared for the challenges that will be faced when entering into the workforce.”

“Across the board, the students’ energy, quick focus, grasp and imaginative approach to the problems they research and the solutions they develop renews my confidence that our future in their hands is sound.”
